A-1 Technical Engineering Solutions has entered into a subsidy contract with BRAC to provide solar home systems to nearly 3,500 households across seven counties in Liberia: Bomi, Gbarpolu, Cape Mount, Nimba, Maryland, Sinoe, and Rivercess. This initiative is part of the Result-Based Financing (RBF) project, sponsored by the World Bank, EnDev, RREA, and BRAC GIZ. The project features two subsidy levels: Direct Subsidy (DS), funded by BRAC GIZ and EnDev, and Indirect Subsidy (IS), funded by RREA and the World Bank.
The RBF project targets last-mile communities in Liberia, where access to electricity is extremely limited. Many households rely on candles or jaco lanterns for lighting, which not only pose health risks, particularly to students’ eyesight, but also contribute to a poor quality of life.
During the signing ceremony, the CEO of A-1 Technical Engineering Solutions expressed gratitude to the sponsors, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with the company’s mission to provide sustainable electricity solutions to both urban and last-mile communities. The CEO highlighted the project’s potential to contribute to reducing carbon footprints and combating climate change.
The program is designed to lower the cost of solar home systems for end-users in remote areas. Additionally, it supports companies in reaching these underserved regions. Under the result-based framework, participating companies will be compensated only after distributing the solar products and undergoing verification by the sponsors, at which point they can claim their subsidies.
