A-1 Partners with RREA to Light Up Underserved Communities in Liberia

A-1 Rural Limited, a subsidiary of A-1 Technical Engineering Solutions, has signed a grant agreement with the Rural Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) under the Liberia Solar Home System Results-Based Financing (LSHS-RBF) Program. The agreement, under the Indirect Subsidy (IS) mechanism, enables A-1 Rural Limited to supply and install 3,900 solar home systems in last-mile communities across Bomi, Capemount, and Gbapolu counties in Liberia.

The LSHS-RBF Program is a joint initiative by Energising Development (EnDev) and BRAC Liberia, funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DGIS), alongside the Rural Renewable Energy Agency (RREA), with additional support from the World Bank. This program offers Direct Subsidies (DS) to reduce the overall cost of solar home systems (SHS) for eligible beneficiaries, addressing affordability barriers. Indirect Subsidies (IS) incentivize companies to expand their operations and provide services in underserved regions.

The Results-Based Financing (RBF) model incentivizes off-grid solar companies to achieve agreed-upon outcomes, such as the sale and installation of SHS for eligible customers. The program’s objective is to provide quality, clean, affordable, and reliable energy services to underserved communities, thereby bridging the affordability gap and promoting sustainable energy access in Liberia.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Daniel M. C. Padmore, CEO of A-1 Technical Engineering Solutions, expressed gratitude to the program’s sponsors. He highlighted that the partnership aligns with A-1’s vision of delivering clean energy solutions to underserved communities. Reflecting on his personal experiences growing up in rural Liberia, Mr. Padmore shared, “I faced significant challenges accessing electricity from my early years through 2005. This inspired the establishment of A-1 to bring light to the people of Liberia and promote sustainable development.”

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in improving energy access for rural Liberians and fostering economic growth through sustainable energy solutions.
